I Get a Pet?

It's gonna be 'Kidda'!

Kidda is a stray cat! Not a street cat! He seems to belong to every cat lover in the vicinity. He is very playful, sweet, only never trusting! We thought that someone used to own him and abandoned him or left him. Also, we thought he was an abused cat that he loses his trust to people.

We have unofficially adopted Kidda. He enjoys being treated like our own. His presence brightens our morning and relaxes our afterwork rests. He spends time with us in the mornings and after we get back home from work.  He enjoys being patted on the shoulder, purrs when fondled on his belly... and delights being treated with cheap cat food.

It makes me wonder though if Kidda would be happy if we adopt him officially. He has been living in the parking area, taking shelter under the cars. He has a big space to himself! Once adopted, he will live indoor so it might not be a good idea for him to be 'imprisoned'. Plus, other people who share affection for Kidda would miss him!

There Is Alchemy Instead of Chemistry?

Alchemy is a multifaceted body of knowledge covering the spiritual, philosophical, physical, cultural and material realms. It is mystical as it could be mythical, philosophical as it could be illogical; metaphysical as it could be material. It involved the practice of searching the philosophers' stone, a mythical substance is used in transforming base metals into gold, and the search for elixirs that will allow people to live forever.

Alchemy is believed to be forerunner of chemistry. However, the scientific method can easily downgrade alchemy into the category of quakery.

If there is alchemy instead of chemistry, it would seem that we live in an enchanted kingdom. Where people are out of touch with reality. Where the futile search for the philosophers' stone  and for the oil to end mortality continues with no end in sight.

There Are No Movies?

Movies provide a good avenue for entertainment. They also serve a medium for expression of human experience in the silver screen. Sad movies make one cry. Movies ending with 'living happily ever after' warm the heart and brighten the day. Through movies, actors are made; many good ones, some horrible. Movies generate revenues for the government; some fat salaries to the actors and the crew; profits for the movie producers and theater owners/operators - all at the expense of the paying viewers.

Many people love to watch the movies. It makes me even wonder how many people would brave the elements and skip the zzzz during midnight screenings! To me, it does not make a lot of sense as the movie will be shown the following day.

I am glad my persona is not that of a movie fanatic. I can wait for the movies to be shown in the local dollar cinema or be released in dvds. Movies are not like news, they don't get stale.

We Did Not Move Here in the US?

Life would be somewhat better and easier to a certain degree.

While everything is automated here in the US, things still need to be done. Putting the laundry to the washing machine, folding the laundry after drying, putting used utensils to the dishwaher and putting them away when they're done, cooking... etc. These things I seldom do back home. These chores are not necessarilty heavy but when done over and over again, they tend to accumulate! No,  am not whining here, am just saying.....

One big thing. I think our children are a little myopic. They are intelligent and great kids, no doubt and question about this. But they behave and act like they are americans. They are quick to adopt other's culture instead of preserving  their own! It bothers me a lot. At times, I call it mea culpa, my fault for bringing them here. One great source of frustration for me!  Their attitudes and the way they perceive us, their parents. As if, they don't need us anymore! I am not saying anything more now...

I don't know if they would behave similarly had we not moved here in the US!

We Don't See Colors?

We won't appreciate the vibrance of life, the beauty of  autumn, the vendant hills and  the marvelous landscape of underwater 'forests'! Everything we see is nothing but shades of gray!

Nocturnal animals don't bother themselves not seeing color. Being active only during the night or living in near total darkness inside caves requires them to develop another sense that compensates for their vision. But the human eye has evolved to have developed an intricate visual perception pattern which allows one to see the beautiful colors of the rainbow.

The human eye contains specialized photoreceptor cells:  the rods which are responsible for the black-white vision, and the cones for color vision. We use our rods from dusk to dawn, when we only see shades of gray. Even during a full moon, even when not a thin trace of cloud in the sky blocking the moon's reflected light from the sun, we only see shades of gray. During the day, even under the overcast sky, we see colors for the cones are veering our vision when there is sufficient amount of light! Be it natural or artificial light!

Colors influence our daily living - our moods, emotions, even appetites! Flamboyant display of colors is used as come-ons for flowers to pollinators, peacocks to lure the peahens, or to fool predators from harming their preys.

Without colors, everything would look monochromatic! How would you like your red apple, golden banana, or pink strawberry if they all look gray to you? How could you tell the Steelers from the Packers as they played in the Super Bowl last week if they seem to wear same gray jerseys?

People Don't Need People?

I was reminded of the lyric of the song, ' no man is an island, no man stands alone'.

Being social is a big event ingrained in  humans during the course of evolution. Formation of societies or caste system was notably in existence even among the lower animal groups. With more sophisticated forms of communications, chemical, verbal or spoken, individuals are becoming more connected into forming societies. And this makes it quite implausible for people not needing other people.

In the movie, Castaway, Tom Hanks was forced by a circumstance to live by himself. But he created a inanimate character which served as his cavemate, 'someone' he talked to and shared his anguish, frustrations and anger with. Even in the mythical story of creation, god provided Adam with a company in Eve.

Living in total isolation is close to impossible. For people always need other people, even in misery!

Life Is Not a Routine ?

What comes around goes around! This is the retinue for life. May be a vicious cycle?

Everything in nature seems to come around in full circle. Water cycle, lunar cycle, menstrual cycle, cell cycle, life cycle....and just like the energizer bunny ad, the cycle keeps on going and going and going.

Living in cycle sustains life's very existence. The earth is a materially-closed system so that the cycling of materials (called geological cycles) allows continuous renewal  and regeneration of materials. With this in mind, everything in nature seems to follow suit, occuring in cyclical pattern in order to maintain a steady state. Within in our cells, we call it homeostasis. Among the different organisms, we call it natural selection. Quite ironical this may seem, but in nature, what seems to be a steady state is the constant change undergone by the species as it continues to adapt with the changing enviroments.

I Have Some Money to Spare?

It's not that I don't have money. I do but something that is not spare!
I always have a soft spot, especially to people who, I see, are in dire need of money especially during emergency situations. I could not just turn my back on them. Especially close family members. But I can only help a little. This is because I have my own cares, too. I have bills to pay. And I need to stash something for the rainy days.

If only I have much to spare, I would love to extend help to people, relatives in particular.

I Am Deaf and Mute?

Iwould live in my own quiet world!

I find it so hard to imagine how to live with my life if I were deaf-mute. But I should have my way, that's for sure! I am amazed how one deaf-mute student in my Anatomy and Physiology class do it. She has kids and a husband, and she is taking the prerequisite courses for an allied health degree. And I find her to be an intelligent student!! To me, she takes being a deaf-mute not a disability, or any hindrance  to her endeavors. I don't even find her, to my own opinion, wallowing in self-pity. She is a cheerful and happy lady!

We are who we are! Sometimes, we just have to confront with the reality we are in, there is no choice whatsoever. The only option is whether we take who we are or not! Self-acceptance is the only way to be at peace with oneself. This is what I would do. I will use my handicap to be of positive influence to  others who are on the same boat. For I believe I could still leave a footprint, no matter how faint, of my mortal journey called life.

I Were A Medical Doctor?

This was my initial dream!

I might have opted a family medicine for specialty. This is because I am a people person. I can reach out to families who have less access to health care. Coming from the third world, it is  common experience watching lives lost because the families don't have money to pay for check ups and medicines. These deaths could've been prevented.

Also, I might have been involved in 'doctors without border' program to if only to help and serve underserved  and underprivilegef areas of the country.

Which means, I would be one doctor without the material wealth!!

I Play in the Super Bowl?

I'd play as the team's Quarterback.... of the Super Bowl winning team!

Since this is wishful thinking, I might as well indulge. The Super Bowl is the top coveted yearly culmination of professional football, and all teams look up to ending up competing for the Vince Lombardi trophy. Just being able to play in the Super Bowl is a  great reward itself to a superb team, the trophy is just extra. And so, teams move heaven and earth to make it to the bowl.

As the team's QB, I will dare do more than what Peyton and Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers did - all of them combined! LOL. I'll see to it the Super Bowl XLV is the most memorable one ever so that  my performance will be etched forever in the memories of football fans. I will win the most valuable player (MVP) for the season. Most of all, I will win the heart of the fans!

I Can Foretell the Future?

Not another Nostradamus or prophet!

I'd like to make my messages loud and clear. Hiding messages behind parables, symbolisms or stories would generate different interpretations of a common information. This divides the people, creates confusion and  causes people to eventually miss the message!

There Is No Music?

There would be no Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Mozart, Pavaroti, and a lot more!

Music is a language of the heart. It expresses sentiments and emotions. It calms the soul, lifts the spirit, brings the baby to sleep! Music, therefore, serves a very important form of communication.

People's culture and traditions are so intertwined with music. Music gives fullness to movies, enlivens the shows, highlights the meaning of rites and adds thrill and excitement to rides. It feels the air and gives life to an otherwise lifeless airlane.

No music? I could not imagine how sad and bad it would be 'the day the music dies'!

All Men Are Created Equal?

Abe Lincoln could be literally right!

I always told my genetics students that hidden inside every person's nucleus is a unique set of DNA. And that DNA spells out the vast array of differences in observable characteristics in humans. From the wisdom of  some great thinkers, we were told not to 'compare ourself with others for there is always a better or lesser person'. Essentially, this means men are not created equal!

Equality could be viewed at multifaceted angles. President Lincoln's social view hinges on nondiscrimination regardless of sex, religion, race, beliefs, law, etc. This is what he fought for, for equality of men was non-existent before, not now either!

I believe society would be boring if all men are created equally in all aspects of life. It's the diversity in appearance, perceptions and views, belief systems, economics, etc that spice up life and living in society.

People Will Live On Fears?

Not a good kinda life!

Living is about taking risks. Fears are part of our daily existence. But risks and fears are those that make living more interesting and challenging. Many people live on the edge, some are thrilled to live a dangerous kind of life while others are so agarophobic that they don't want to get away from their comfort zones.

Most of our fears are invented figments of pessimism and are, therefore, unfounded. As a one famous line we commonly hear, 'the greatest fear of all is the fear of the unknown'. Fears make up apprehensive about doing things, they keep us up to our toes. However, when fears take the reins of our lives, they chart a gloomy lifestyle that is more of existing, not living.

People Don't Make Mistakes?

Sounds impossible! But what if?

I've been trying to bring to mind the many mistakes I made in my life. Surprising, only few did surface, at least at this moment. And it made me ponder.. whoa! Am I close to being infallable? lol...

People are doomed to err, and this is the simple truth. No matter how smart a person is, one still commits mistakes. Infact, smart people tend to commit more mistakes as they are more adventurous and calculated risk takers. Mistakes are not necessarily bad. From them, lessons are learned. It's the consequence and the extent of the aftermath of committing mistakes that suck. But well, we are only humans. Who knows what you did was a mistake during the act? For if one knows it's a mistake, why do it?

If people don't make mistakes, then things about life could be very boring and meaningless. There will be no best because everything seems good. No laws because eveybody seems lawful. No experience of happiness because everything just seems to fall into place. No love because nobody needs it anyway. No friends because there's no need for a shoulder to cry on.

I don't really like this kind of life! For these mistakes make life worth living!

I Am Egypt's President Mubarak?

With all the turmoil going on, as more and more people express their sentiments of distrust in the streets of Egypt  regarding my leadership, I will show my love and concern to my countrymen by offering the ultimate sacrifice of stepping from  office. The political crisis, which has been occurring for days now, would do a great damage to the country's economy. I will allow a caretaker to take the reins of the country until a new president will be elected.
That way, the adverse consequences of this crisis will be abated.

I Were A Politician?

Will be a non-traditional kind!

I always thought that politics is dirty. In the political arena, dirty linens are exposed, dark secrets revealed, lies  fabricated, and false promises  made. It is a dividing force which rips families apart, separates friends and severes relationships.  Biases and prejudices defeat objectivity. And the only thing permanent is the politician's personal interests.

Here are situations captured during political campaign sorties:

'If you vote for me, I will make new bridges'  promises a politician. 'But Mr. Politician, we don't even have rivers in here', countered one citizen. 'Then', the politician answered, 'we will make rivers, as well!'.

'If you will trust me with your vote, I will do everything to improve this institution', says a guberntorial candidate. 'Can you give funds to purchase cadavers for our Anatomy Class?', asks a professor. 'Sure, how many truckloads do you need?' answers the candidate. Then he continues, 'by the way, what is a cadaver?'.

I will change the way politics will be viewed especially with the younger generation. That politics is for governance, accountabilty, and most of all, service for the people!

There's No Internet?

Think of the days before the late 1970s.

Information transfer and sharing  is slow. Breaking news, if they are big time, could only be spread worldwide using the television and cable networks. Access and retrieval of information required spending hours flipping through the card catalogues in libraries or going over disk-stored databases. Could be frustrating if the journal or reference materials are not in the library's collections!

Communication system is generally slow. Snail mail take a lot of time to get into their destination. No emails, no chats, no videoconferences. No internet porn, streaming videos and movies, no youtube, no blogs..

Ahhhhh, must be a different kind of life. But we all went through...just fine!

I Were Actor Charlie Sheen?

Charlie Sheen has been pretty much in the news lately. His hits in the headlines and in the internet stem from more of his notoriety, as a womanizer, an alcoholic and  a 'woman' beater! He's been into  yoyo-rehab for much of his uncontrolled psychiatry-related behaviors - alcoholism, sex addiction (?), drugs (?) and who-knows-what else?

This actor is considerably lucky (if luck exists!) being  one of the highest paid TV actors, earning millions of dollars per episode of the TV show which portrays his real-life character as a compulsive womanizer. He is the envy of many other actors, I suppose. To top it all, despite of all the bad publicity Charlie has been having lately, he is still enjoying the unwavering support and trust of his network!

I bet this actor is enjoying the ride of his life peppered with fame, money, drugs, alcohol, sex and, yes, more sex!

If I were Charlie Sheen, I would use my fame and money to be a positive influence to others, especially the young people. In his show, he plays a 'bad influence' uncle to a young pubertal boy. His show, being in primetime, is being watched by people of all ages. Tough comedy in nature, a wrong message can be picked up the young boys who are struggling to be in sync with the hormonal rushings going inside their bodies. I can be the Charlie who can be admired as a good model, both in the boob tube as well as in real life. Or at least, I would be discreet in my affairs.

Darwin (and Wallace) Did Not Come Up With the Theory of Evolution?

No conflict between the Christian beliefs and science!

Human intellect interested in furthering the truth and reason used science as a way to mine new information from the unknown or from erroneous pre-existing notions or beliefs. In the past, every time science comes up with novel information that challenges what he church believes as true, the digger of the new information suffers the church's wrath, and doomed to be excommunicated. This happened to Gallileo.

Darwin, after analyzing and deciphering the message behind the enormous collection of biological specimens from his five-year voyage of the HMS Beagle, felt a storm brewing inside him. That was because his (along with Wallace) findings were at odds with what he and his prestigious family held for a long time - that the species is immutable.

Had Darwin kept his silence instead of trumpeting to the whole world what he found, he could be largely  blamed for  suppressing the brazen truth. Or it could be that someone else would come forward and reap the bragging rights of the title of  being the 'father of evolution'.

People Will Not Die?

Hmmmm... problems, lots of them!

Overcrowding, too much competition, too much suffering, endless problems.

Death is the greatest invention of life. To many, it is the answer for their long term suffering, pain and discomfort. It tends to prevent the rapid increase of the world population. From the point of evolution, death is one way to filter out the fit from the unfit. As such, death is just as important as life itself!

If true, old men in the Bible lived for hundreds of years. The measurement of their years may not be necessarily the same with what we currently have, though, as the calendar we follow was developed  later. The general increase in life's longevity has put tremendous strain on families and on the health care system. This is because more and more health related expenses are incurred as one gets older.  Imagine if the elderly people continue to accumulate through the years... Must be a big burden on the govenment, on the families and to the society. As world becomes overcrowded, more new problems will  emerge continuously aggravating the hellish existence. Things will eventually get out of hand.

It's gonna be a hell  on earth!

I Did Not Become a Teacher?

Many possibilities...

I may have ended up being a chemical engineer if I survived the mathematical rigors the degree required. As such, I may be a 'mucho dinero' by this time. lol..

Or it could be that I would still be toiling the soil in the farm, beating the every day heat of the sun breaking my back. If so, this is the kind of life I despised!

Have I worked other than being a teacher, I would consider myself less of an accomplished person. Teaching is a job that allowed me, in my own little ways, to touch and make a difference in the lives of other people.

I Am a Bad Guy?

Am out there for some troubles!

Being bad could be relative and it is dependent on how one looks at it! Different standards can be used to judge one to be either bad or good- religion, morality and, of course, the law.

My mom can attest that I have always been good as far as running against the law is concerned. So far, I've never been incriminated for major traffic violations or never been to court for any complaints or charges. Of course, this does not mean I have never committed any minor errors or indiscretions.

Granted that I am a bad boy, I still believe that in the small crevice of my being lies a human instinct which carries goodness and compassion for others. I would do a 'Robin Hood'  if only to do something good of my being bad! Even if that way, the 'end does not justify the means'.

People Will Chastise Me For Who I Am?

I do not expect every individual to like me. For I just don't click with everybody. Like magnets, some personalities and idiosyncrasies clash while others simply click.

My being tolerant to other people is my way of  recognizing and respecting individual differences. Somehow, I expect others to do the same.  A boundary exists between tolerance and disrespect. I try  to keep my limits and boundaries, for stepping on others' toes opens up a plethora of troubles. So if people can not withstand me for who I am, just keep your distance. Just like the saying goes, 'what goes around comes around'.

I Could Touch Other People's Heart?

The inner anatomy professor in me tells me not to confuse the heart as the center of  feelings and emotions. But I should speak in layman's tems in order to reach out to many. Ordinarily, people think the heart is where the love, anger, hatred, mercy, happiness, contentment,  reside. A person changing his heart does not necessarily receive a heart transplant!

If could touch other people's heart, I would if only to

....make leaders of nations work with compassion to put the  best interest of the constituents they serve over and above their personal and selfish goals, by eliminating corruption in government and promoting accountability;

....change the minds of people who find pleasure in sowing terror and confusion, to end their vicious and merciless killing of inocent lives;

....encourage religious leaders and groups to practice consistency with what they say and do,  rather than being hypocrites, extremely judgmental and bigots;

....make businesses mindful not only of their personal gains but rather for the general well being of everyone; and

....encourage everyone to be an agent of change by making random acts of kindness and be responsible individuals.

And the world will become a better place to live!

I Am a Cat?

Many possible things will happen!!

I may end up pampered and lavishly loved  as a member in  empty if not childless afluent families, as companion to some single ladies and widows, or as a buddy to some single dudes. I may sleep with them on their sleep-number beds. get the regular pet grooming, and enjoy staying in fancy pet hotels from time to time when my owners go out of town. I will be fed with a variety of chef-inspired gourmet meals, and will be seen frequently by a high-end overpricing vets.

It could be I end up homeless, living in the streets along with other humans under the bridges. Life will be tough then. I have to sharpen my instinctive skills to gather my own food. Watch out  low-IQ (I mean, low flying) birds and the stupid dumb mice for I am out there to get you. I will frequent the parks and picnic areas for some left over foods. Or I will stay  around housing units for senior citizens hoping that some generous near-the-end-of their-life ladies will share their ration with me.

If given the chance, I will prefer to live in the US, just like most humans wish,  where cats like me are afforded some degree of protection from maltreatment and animal abuse. In many households, pet cats share budget for their daily maintenance and necessities. It's in the US that some lucky cats are worth more than a human life. And that some stupid humans are fined and incriminated for cruelty against animals.

Worst case scenario, as a street cat in the Third World countries,  I will end up lying on my back in the laboratory, dead and skinned, dissected in an Anatomy class. This is a tragic ending for a good cause!

I Am Trapped in an Elevator?

Panic!!!

I am a little claustrophobic! It wouldn't be so bad if I am not alone. When trapped alone, it's going to be worse. But being in that unexpected situation, I have to keep my cool and collect some optimism that everything's gonna be okay soon. I'll call 911  and people close to me, if it happens that there is a signal inside. Otherwise, I have to wait until the elevator gets fixed.

So while inside the dark elevator, I will gather my thoughts and think of possible topics for this year-long 'What If' blog, until I get myself some sleep. It would probably be a different scenario if someone is trapped with me.

I Am a Famous Actor?

I would be a millionaire!

The flicks and characters I  choose would be the ones promoting love and peace. I love to watch love story movies. They simply warm the heart and lift the human spirit. Movies like these, I'd like to portray the character of  either a sweet boy-next-door type who is exploring the waters of life and love or that of a mature guy who is seeking second chances on love. Flicks portraying the heroism of superheroes is another one I'd like to do. They send the message especially the young audience that the 'good will always triumph over evil' and that 'for the evil to triumph is for the good man to do nothing'.

I Have 'Nine Lives' Like a Cat?

Hmmm very interesting.

I would live one life at a time. But I will be leading a life full of risks and adventures. I will bungee jump from the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York or the Eiffel Tower in Paris. I will enjoy the crazy ride of the  Indy 500 and flying with the skaterboard! Of course, I will skydive , and glide over the Grand Canyon. Oh it must be fun to have so much lives to spare!

Wishful thinking... tsk tsk tsk!

Antibiotics Were Not Discovered?

September 23, 1928,  Dr. Alexander Fleming discovered an antibiotic, later on identified and known as penicillin, by accident. While trying to clean the clutter of his lab bench, he looked at petri dishes inoculated with a specific bacterium. One plate, he noted, had a mold growth on it and a zone of clearing  was noted around the mold. The zone of clearing was thought to be a region where bacterial growth was prevented by the substance produced by the mold.

Today, management and treatment of infections rely very heavily on antibiotic use. Antibiotics are also given to surgery or to other patients to proactively prevent infection. A wide range of antibiotics are now available. Unfortunately though, the unnecessary use of these antibiotics may ironically lead to the lose their efficacy against target microorganisms

Without the discovery of antibiotics, humanity would suffer massive loss of lives due to infections by different microorganisms.

I Can Do One Miracle?

Miracles have become a commonplace. People have become more generous in calling an event a miracle. As such, the word miracle has seemingly lost its essence, and its meaning has become loosely associated with anything simply beyond the mediocre.

I don't believe in miracle. But yet, I believe that everything happens for a reason, that nothing would happen without a cause. For every thing considered a miracle, there should be an underlying cause.

Granting I can do one miracle, I'd like to change the mindset of people. That people will be a keeper of other people. I'd like to see people oblivious about themselves and their personal interests. Where selfishness and self-aggrandizement will be no more. Where bigotry, slavery and cruelty are inexistent. And where  peace, love and harmony will prevail!

I Have To Live Up To a Hundred Years?

That means I am halfway through it!

When I was little, I used to eavesdrop my mother saying her prayer every night. She used to sit in a yoga position and deliver her nightly mumbo-jumbo to God before finally retiring to sleep. Among the things she asked for was a longer life! She will be celebrating her 84th birthday next week! To me, that is quite a long life!!

I find it hard to imagine what and how would life be when I'll be in my mother's age. And I find it even harder if I have to live beyond. In general, men have shorter life expectancy compared to women. I am more concern about the quality of life I will lead in that age. Will I still be functional? Or will I be bed-riden? If living that time will be more of dealing with pain and misery, I'd hope that 'euthanasia' becomes available by then, so I can opt for a willful termination of my life. I would refuse to allow some life support systems put on me if only just to keep my body alive.

There's No Gravity?

It's like floating in the outer space!

Gravity is the force of attraction between celestial bodies. It is the force that keeps the planets on their orbits as they revolve around the sun, the same force that holds the moon as it revolves around the earth. It keeps us from falling into the outer space and it makes us fall as we climb up in a tree.

Living in a zero gravity environment  is unimaginable if not impossible. This environment does not permit  occurrence of ecological processes needed to sustain life.

I Change A Career?

I wanna be a painter!

I suck at drawing! I have never painted. But I love paintings. My first experience having  to see a smorgasboard of paintings was during a visit to the Getty Museum in California. The collection of paintings was extensive and awesomely 'ginormous'.

I will paint just about anything. My life story, my love, my perception about the world. I will use my paintings to express my inner thoughts and feelings, my hopes for a peaceful world, and my dreams that someday the world will be a better place to live.

There Is No Love?

There's be no Valentine's Day! lol

Love is a feeling experienced and expressed freely  only among humans. It is an emotion that sets humans above other animals. It comes in many forms (self, others, erotic) and in different intensities. To many, it makes their world go round. To others, it drives them nuts and crazy.

Love is a force that binds lovers tightly, bonds families strongly and ties friends and other people. It can be an elixir, a panacea or a poison. It soothes the achy heart, heals the wounds of the destitute or  ignites the fire of rage and jealousy. Love knows no time, no boundary and it is free.

When there is no love, humans join the rank of other animals.   Jealousy, deceit, hatred, ruthlessness, selfishness - these attributes prevail when love is not around. Lovelessness can be depressing and can make one feel hopeless, worthless and even lifeless.

So how about we make love instead of war?

I Am a Mystical God?

I will bring heaven on earth!

There's just a lot of turmoil and chaos in this physical world. So much hatred, bickerings, killings,  bigotry and a whole lot of elements which cause disharmony and disunity among the people. So many diseases that cause sorrows, pains and miseries even to the kindhearted. So many catastrophes that take lives of many innocent people. And  a lot of inequalities which deepen the groove demarcating the haves from the have nots. Where poverty degrades human dignity.

As a  loving god, I can't just turn away my back from the godlessness and cruelty of many. I can't close my eyes and refrain from seeing the sufferings of the innocent and the helpless, who are constantly begging for my 'supposed' grace and mercy. I will not  tolerate the self-proclaiming religious and righteous people who live, think and speak as if they are god, and are quick to pass judgment to the non-conformists.I will not tolerate bigotry, slavery and poverty.

I will strip the people of freewill for they will be making no choices.  There'll be no religion. I will speak in plain language instead of parables to eliminate peoples' confusion caused by different interpretations of similar intention. I will  make it sure that my actions and nature are consistently in congruence.  I will shed off any clout of mysticism, so rationality and reason reign over unquestionably blind faith and 'god works in mysterious ways' philosophy.

I have to Re-live a Part of My Life?

Would choose the days when I was a young kid.

Living in isolation deprived me with the opportunity to enjoy the carefree days of my youth. No playmates other than my siblings, my life revolved around and was centered on my family. Don't get me wrong, it was not a bad thing. But there was something I missed during those growing up years. Instead of being out there playing with friends, I was exposed to household chores and field works at an early age.

I Am Stuck in an Island With a Person I Despise?

I smell trouble...huh?

Not really! I believe in second chances. Things change.

Trapped inside the body of the mean-spirited and  ruthless beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beast is a gentle, kind-hearted and loving prince. Similarly, I believe that within a human being, no matter how one despises him, still lies a good persona. I was reminded of an instance when, while my family was traveling to visit the folks in Surigao, the bus we're into was hijacked by grenade- and gun- toting guys. Every passenger was stripped  off of anything of value. When it was my time to give their loot, I begged the hijacker to spare some money just incase my two toddlers would need something for the rest of our journey. And he did.

I'll seize the opportunity to be at peace with this person. I will be subtly confrontational, telling him about the reasons why I dislike him. Opening up will certainly bridge whatever gaps, communication or otherwise, in existence and, hopefully, will defuse the situation. Afterall, we only have each other in that island!

I Am Gone Tomorrow?

Mourn not my dear wife
For death is part of life
Mourn not my dear children
Down your sorrows on the drain

Sing no sad song for me
Read no sweet eulogy
Plant no roses over my grave
Just let go so I can leave

I Don't Believe In God?

I am in hot water!

People close to me thinks she knows me no longer. She thinks I am a different person now. She blames me for trivial and common inconveniences in the family - illness like common cold, inconveniences, insufficiencies, etc... for my disbelief.

I lost my wife's respect! It makes me wish that somehow in marriage, I still retain a space for myself. This, however, does not change my love for her.

I Could Fly?

Looks like angel in the outfield, huh?

Just a wild imagining! If so, I will fly up to the heavens and see what and how the immortal beings out there look. Then I will look down here to see how the heavenly beings see the earth. I will fly past the horizons, far beyond what the human eyes can see. I will conquer the vastness of the oceans separating the opposite poles of the earth. I will scale every peak of the highest mountains, scan the rugged mountain ranges and dive down the gorges. That is if I am a superman!

I will live with the finches in Galapagos, play with the pigeons in Paris, commune with the seagulls in Corpus Christi, raid the nest of the woodpecker in the Amazonia, enjoy the nightlife with the owls from all over the world. That is if I have the wings of the bird!!

I will visit every flower, smell its heavenly scent, sip its sweet nectar and help them cause to bear fruits,  if I am a butterfly!

I thought, it's gonna be a wonderful life!

I Wake Up An Entirely Different Person Tomorrow Morning?

Confusion reigns supreme!

I will be in an entirely unfamiliar room sharing a bed with a person I don't know! Whoa! Scary! Strange.... I may not be able to recognize myself!

Starting with a blank slate in my brain just like an empty computer memory, it will be an opportunity to invent my new persona. But it's gonna be a difficult task not knowing what to do and where to start.

I Win The Lotto Tonight?

I will scream at the top of my voice... for disbelief!! And I will ask my wife to pinch me and wake me up from a very good nightmare! lol

The fact that I bought a ticket gives me a slightest probability of winning it!! Whether I win it or not? Will find out in few hours. But I may choose to check it out a bit later rather than sooner. I want the element of surprise to linger... Lol

Be that as it may, if I win something that is big of an amount, I will share much of it (up to 50%) to people close to me whom I know they needed my help. It's been said, charity begins at home so my immediate and wife's immediate relatives are on top of my list! Depending on how much the winning is, I want to contribute to the development of my high school  and elementary alma mater. I have always wanted to give back to my community some of the blessings that life brought me. Blessings, just like love,  are meant to be shared.

Of course, this might give us the chance to buy a place my family calls home. My children have financial aid loans for their college education, I intend to help them pay out their debts. The rest may be stashed for the rainy days!!

No, am not counting the chicks while the eggs are yet to be hatched. Me thinks it's just being proactive.. Good luck to me (although, I don't really believe in luck but in chance!)

Sex Did Not Evolve?

Life would be literally boring!

Sexual reproduction generates unlimited  random combinations of genes and chromosomes. Sex cells formation (called gametogenesis; spermatogenesis for sperm production and oogenesis for egg production) involves a special type of cell division called meiosis which  ultimately, produces a unique set of genes in every egg  or sperm cell. Every individual produced sexually has a distinct genetic make up. The random shuffling and recombination of genes during gametogenesis and the random fusion of gametes during fertilization account for the existence of a wide range of characters. So that eye color could be amber, blue, green, gray, hazel or brown.  Some guys  are good, bad and ugly. Ladies keep their eyes on the tall, dark and handsome. It's the existence of variability that makes life exciting... thanks to sexual reproduction!

Sex, though instinctive, is a very expensive and exhaustive process. Especially to animals with internal fertilization like us, who do not use water as the medium for fertilization; that is- for the sperm and egg to meet. There is a need to physically deliver the sperm cells into the female reproductive tract through coitus. The good thing however is that nature has developed an incentive which encourages humans as well as other animals to copulate. So that no matter how exhaustive and messy sex is, it rewards the individuals with a habit-forming ecstatic feeling which climaxes the sexual act. So addictive that many individuals indulge in sex not necessarily for procreation but more of recreation.

And that makes life exciting!!

The Sun Won't Come Out Tomorrow?

Unimaginably disastrous!

A massive asteroid struck the earth about 165 million years ago, and is blamed for the extinction of the voluptuously massive creatures - the dinosaurs, after the jurassic period. The heavy impact sent a thick cloud of dusts to the atmosphere shielding the earth from the sun over a long period of time. Literally, the sun did not come out for a long time!

A series of unfortunate events, followed. No sunlight reaching the surface of the earth. There was massive cooling. Glaciation did occur.

When there was no light, there was no photosynthesis. Food production was suddenly halted. Death ensued... death of plants, death of animals including the dinosaurs.... the earth smelled the stink of death!

Father Time Stands Still?

I used to have a list of things I wanted  to change or do for myself every start of the a new year. For a reckoning time of a new year, my options are either starting on the first day of the year or the first day after my birthday. Sadly, though, both never worked out. I would always start with a lot of enthusiasm but the momentum does not develop at the get go. The flame just dies away. In fairness, there were a couple of instances in the past when I maintained a diary and did it for quite awhile. But there was never an instance that I completed a year-long activity.

In the past days, before 2011 completely set in, I was thinking of doing something which I hope I'll have the commitment to carry out for the entire year. My recent interest in blogging has inspired me to come up with this project. What IF? It's a blog about anything - a consequential answer to a random question. Of course, the answer could be hypothetical, philosophical, practical or comic! Anything I could think of...

And I would love to hear any feedbacks or comments or rants from any reader (if someone, by accident happens to browse this blog)!!

What iF ... Father Time Stands Still?

New year's day will not come. There'll be no ball dropping in Time Square, New York! No flamboyant and ostentatious display of pyrotechnics all over the world. No fancy revelries. No count downs. No 'auld lang syne'. No new year's eve parties. No preparations for the new year's eve party. No new year's resolutions.

The pendulum stops swinging. The hands stop clicking. The earth stops rotating on its axis and it ceases to  revolve around the sun. No sunset and sunrise. No changing of seasons. No changing of tides.

No celebrations... birthdays, anniversaries, holidays.

Units of activities like speed, motion, circulation, heart rate and the like have to be re-written as these are measured per unit time.

Time is an essential element of evolution. And so evolution stops.

No one  will be in a hurry to beat a deadline, catch a flight. No one gets older!

It takes away the meaning of the word 'timeless' and the agony of waiting.

So what you think, fellas?  Please let me hear from ya....
